We read the maker block
Fujifilm writes the film simulation and every other look setting into the metadata of each JPEG, and into the RAF beside it. For the read, only that metadata is sent, not the picture.

What Is a Fujifilm Recipe?
A Fujifilm recipe is a set of in-camera settings that make the JPEG come out of the camera already looking finished. Instead of editing afterwards, you dial the recipe into the camera once: a film simulation such as Classic Chrome or Acros, a white balance and its red and blue shift, highlight and shadow tone, color, sharpness, noise reduction, grain, and the dynamic range setting.
Fujifilm cameras are unusual in offering this much control over the in-camera JPEG, which is why a whole community has grown around naming and sharing fuji film recipes. Save one to a custom slot and the picture is done the moment you press the shutter.
A JPEG straight from a Fujifilm camera carries those settings inside its metadata, and so does the RAF from the same frame. That is what this page reads.
How a Fujifilm Recipe Differs From a Lightroom Preset
Both give a photo a consistent look, and that is where the similarity stops.

The practical difference: a recipe is a way of shooting, a preset is a way of editing. A recipe costs you nothing at the computer but has to be decided before the shutter. A preset can be changed forever but means every frame passes through Lightroom first.
They are not rivals. Plenty of Fuji photographers shoot a recipe for the JPEG and keep the RAW for the frames that deserve a preset.
What Is Inside a Fuji Film Recipe
The card above lists the recipe in the order the camera menu does, in the camera's own words. This is what each line means.
- Film Simulation
- Provia, Velvia, Astia, Classic Chrome, Pro Neg., Eterna, Classic Negative, Nostalgic Neg., Reala ACE, Acros, Monochrome, Sepia.
- Dynamic Range and D Range Priority
- DR100, DR200, DR400 or Auto, and the priority setting on newer bodies.
- White Balance and its shift
- The preset or a Kelvin value, plus the red and blue shift, R and B, from -9 to +9.
- Highlight and Shadow
- The tone curve at each end, -2 to +4, in half steps on newer bodies.
- Color, Sharpness, Noise Reduction, Clarity
- The four -4 to +4 dials (Clarity runs -5 to +5).
- Grain Effect, Color Chrome Effect, Color Chrome FX Blue
- Roughness and size, and the two chrome effects, each Off, Weak or Strong.
- Monochromatic Color
- The warm/cool and magenta/green shifts on Acros and Monochrome, on X-Trans IV and V bodies.
Why the Same Recipe Looks Different on Two Fuji Cameras
Recipes are written for a sensor generation. An X-Trans IV body and an X-Trans V body render the same numbers differently, and newer generations added settings that older ones do not have: Clarity, Color Chrome FX Blue and Grain Size among them. That is why fujifilm recipes are published as "X-T5 (X-Trans V)" rather than just by name.
This page reads your camera model out of the file and tells you which generation the recipe came from, so you know what it will translate to. Settings a body does not have are marked "not on this body", never shown as zero.

Generations and settings as Fujifilm publishes them. The reader's per-body checks have been verified on real files from the X-T3 so far; if a row is wrong for your body, tell us.
How to Enter a Recipe Into Your Camera
Open the IQ (image quality) menu and set each line to match the card: Film Simulation first, then Grain Effect, Color Chrome Effect, White Balance and its shift, Dynamic Range, Highlight and Shadow Tone, Color, Sharpness, Noise Reduction and Clarity. On bodies with custom slots, save the result under Edit/Save Custom Setting so it is one dial turn away.
Exposure compensation and ISO are not part of the saved slot. Published fuji film recipes usually quote them alongside, which is why the card shows the ISO and exposure compensation the photo was taken with.
Turning a Fujifilm Recipe Into a Lightroom Preset
The download button on the card writes the recipe as an XMP preset, and it is an approximation. Fujifilm's film simulations are color science inside the camera; Adobe ships matching camera profiles for RAF files only, so on a JPEG the preset carries the look through sliders: highlight and shadow tone, color, clarity, sharpness, noise reduction, grain and the white balance shift. Settings a slider cannot express, such as Color Chrome Effect and D Range Priority, are listed next to the download rather than silently dropped.
For a photo that was edited in Lightroom after the shot, the preset extractor reads the exact develop settings out of the file. A Fuji JPEG that went through Lightroom carries both, and this page shows both: the recipe first, the exact preset below it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you read the recipe from any photo?
Only from a file that came straight out of a Fujifilm camera, JPEG or RAF. Re-saving through Instagram, a screenshot or a messaging app usually strips the metadata. When that happens, FindPreset says so and offers to recreate the look with AI instead, which is the paid step.
Does it work on RAF files?
Yes. Fujifilm writes the same look settings into the RAF as into the JPEG, so the recipe reads from either, and the thumbnail you see is the preview the RAF carries inside itself, pulled out on your device. For a RAF your browser follows the pointer in the RAF header to the preview the file embeds, sends that preview’s metadata and stops where its image data begins, so the cut is a little larger than a JPEG’s and still carries no picture. The one real limit: AI recreation is not offered for a RAW file, so a RAF with no recipe in it has nothing more to give here. Verified on real X-T3 files so far, the same single body as the JPEG path; every other body decodes through ExifTool’s tables but is not yet checked by us.
Does this work on photos from other camera brands?
The recipe readout is Fujifilm only, because these settings are Fujifilm’s. Upload a Canon or Sony file here and the page tells you which camera it found and offers to recreate the look as a Lightroom preset with AI, the same paid step as on the homepage.
Can I turn a recipe into a Lightroom preset?
Yes, with a caveat: it is an approximation. Fujifilm’s film simulations are made in the camera and Lightroom cannot reproduce them exactly. The download names Adobe’s matching camera profile for the film simulation where Adobe ships one (Lightroom applies those to RAF files only), maps the tone, color, clarity, sharpness and grain settings to sliders, and lists the settings it could not carry over, such as Color Chrome Effect.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
For the recipe read, no. Your browser cuts the metadata out of the file and sends only that: with a JPEG everything before the image data, normally under 200 KB, and with a RAF the header plus the embedded preview’s metadata, roughly 65 KB on the X-T3 file we measured. Both cuts end where image data begins, so the picture itself stays on your device, the sensor data in a RAF never moves, and nothing from the read is stored. If you continue to AI recreation for a photo with no recipe, that photo is uploaded for that step, as on the homepage.
Which Fujifilm cameras are supported?
Any X-series or GFX body should work: Fujifilm writes the look settings into the JPEG and the RAF, and the reader uses ExifTool’s Fujifilm tables, which cover the whole range. We have verified the readout against real files from the X-T3 so far; every other body decodes but is not yet checked by us. Older bodies have fewer settings, and the card marks those as not on this body rather than showing zeros. If your body reads wrong, tell us.
